Destruction and construction are two sides of a coin. These two eternal activities run in a circle across the world. Not only Hiroshima and Nagasaki proved to be phoenix but also New York City fought back with courage by reopening the train station below the twin towers of the World Trade Center at Manhattan, which were reduced to dust in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Worlds Costliest Train Station, New York, USA

The subway rail station beneath the World Trade Center was a vital transit connection between New York and New Jersey. The inauguration of a new train station restored the connection yesterday after 12 years of delayed construction. The same place which was destroyed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks came alive as the world’s costliest train station in New York City.

Named the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, the new subway train station is a new ray of hope amidst the traumatic memories of what shook the US in 2001. It is expected to lessen the intensity of the trauma though scars of the wounds inflicted to the being of North America will remain. However, the world’s costliest train station in New York will link the PATH commuter rail line to New Jersey with the subway lines across New York.

There is an indoor way for pedestrians to access the Trade Center from the new station building named Oculus. Architected by a Spanish-Swiss architect, the station building is an oval shaped giant structure of steel ribs and glass, with two wings like those of a bird spreading out towards the sky. The building will house an upscale shopping and restaurant plaza which will be unveiled in August this year.

The interior of the world’s costliest train station in New York boasts a huge cathedral-like space which is soaked in natural light filtering through the glass walls at daytime. The bright beauty and innovative infrastructure of the station Oculus has silenced the critics who were vocal against a whopping increase in the budget from US$2 billion to US$3.8 billion over 7 years of delay in the construction.

The World’s costliest train station in New York is partially opened without any official ceremony. On completion, Oculus will be the third largest transportation center in New York City for more than daily 200,000 commuters.

American Airlines is all set to redefine its on-ground hospitality in the United States. American Airlines has shortlisted New York JFK airport, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Miami International Airport (MIA), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) where flagship lounges will be set up at the first phase of the multi-million dollar project.

The new American Airlines lounges in the US will be furnished with a la modish furniture, equipped with advanced power outlets and graced with multicultural dining space. Dining services at the flagship lounges will be designed in keeping with new F&B concepts. The airline promises to treat premium passengers to an exclusive ‘five-star’ restaurant experience at the upcoming lounges.

The first flagship lounge is scheduled for opening at New York JFK airport in early 2017. Dining at the new American Airlines lounges in the US will be a complimentary offer. The full-service table menu will have seasonal dishes cooked with locally-sourced ingredients from multiple cuisines. The same ‘five-star’ dining concept will be introduced at other airport lounges across the United States.

Each of the new American Airlines lounges in the US will have its own executive chef to serve the gastronomic needs of guests with different palates. All first and business class travelers with confirmed tickets for American Airlines’ transpacific, transatlantic, transcontinental and deep South American flights will be eligible to access the flagship lounges and enjoy the complimentary ‘five-star’ hospitality.

“Estimated at more than US$3 billion, the project will cement our brand image, value and service in the minds of our customers so that they fly with us every time. The USP of this project is flagship dining with ‘five-star’ restaurant service which will make us stand out in the competition-driven aviation hospitality sector,” said Andrew Nocella, CMO of American Airlines.

Apart from the new American Airlines lounges in the US, the project includes a plan to upgrade the existing Admirals Club lounges. 15 airport lounges in the airline’s network are shortlisted for renovation which will take place over the next few years. Houston George Bush International Airport (IAH) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) will also get American Airlines’ flagship lounges.

A plan to upgrade American Airlines’ Arrivals Lounge at London Heathrow Airport with new amenities for dining, recreation and relaxation has been proposed under the project. “On-ground hospitality should match the sophistication and luxury of flying in American Airlines’ first and business classes,” said Andrew Nocella.

Today is the second day of Pope Francis’ U.S. tour. President Barack Obama welcomed him to the White House around 9 o’clock this morning. Then, the Pope led a prayer ceremony at St. Matthew’s Cathedral at 11 AM and held a canonization mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine at 4:15 PM. You may roll your eyeballs over how luxurious Pope Francis’ travel in the USA is. You may be feeling itchy to know how he will travel and where he will stay during his three-city itinerary. What we are going to share about the Pope’s travel and accommodation will send a shock of surprise down your spine.

Pope Francis hit the streets of Washington DC in Popemobile on his second day of the U.S. itinerary. Unlike luxury vehicles, Popemobile is a kind of clown car with a bulletproof glass box on four wheels. Previous popes like Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul used to ride ultra-luxury vehicles by Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz during their foreign tours. But Pope Francis was seen blessing the masses, from the glass box of a Jeep Wrangler, on the streets of America’s capital city today. Reportedly, he will be riding the same vehicle in New York and Philadelphia as well.

The way Pope Francis travels in Europe is no way similar to how he will be flying in the USA. He flies on a chartered Alitalia Jet in and around Europe. The US President’s Air Force One is a far talk. Pope Francis will be taking flights on American Airlines from Washington DC to New York to Philadelphia, instead of his chartered jet, which doesn’t come cheap on foreign routes. Usually the press corporation contributes to the cost of his flights in order to get access to him during his tours.

Pope Francis keeps a low profile during his foreign tours. Surprisingly, he neither books hotels online nor checks into any hotel when he travels. The Catholic Church is one of the biggest real estate owners in the world. It owns properties across the globe. Evidently, the Catholic Church itself has made arrangements for his accommodation in Washington DC, New York and Philadelphia.

The Pope will take rest at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See during his stay in Washington DC. He will retire to bed at Apostolic Nuncio to the United Nations when in New York. It is the Vatican City’s embassy to the UN. Philadelphia will accommodate him at Archbishop Charles Chaput’s residence at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. All of the places where Pope Francis will accommodate himself during his three-city itinerary in the U.S. do not match even a fourth star hotel. It’s too simple and modest to believe!
